What is a Timing Belt?

The engine of your car is a fine-tuned instrument. Internally, parts act quickly with precision timing that involves less time than it takes to think open” or “close.” Interestingly enough, these instructions are the orders that the timing belt issues to the internal parts of your engine—namely the piston and the valves.

The two principal shafts that drive your engine are the crankshaft and the camshaft. The crankshaft drives your pistons up and down in the cylinder, the camshaft opens and closes the valves that allow air into the combustion chamber and create the compression necessary for complete ignition. Obviously, these two actions must be coordinated, or the parts will collide. The timing belt is the piece that coordinates these actions.

Whether you are driving around Nashua, come to Nashua Kia to have your timing belt tested. It does not take long to ensure your safe driving.
